To whom it may concern:

I have been asked to write a reccommendation for xxx.  I have known
Mr. xx only a short time, but have been impressed with his abilities.
He worked as a teaching assistant for me Spring Quarter, 1980, in an
undergraduate course in Data Structures. He understood the material
and was able to help several students understand it as well.  He was a
conscientious grader, taking the time to trace a student's  answer in order
to indicate where a solution went wrong.  He worked very hard to get
the corrected programs and written homework back to the students in a
timely fashion.  I received nothing but good remarks about him from the students.

Salif is well-liked by all those who work with him. 
I believe he will be an excellent Ph.D. candidate.
